Stone Mounting Styles

There are a number of different styles of mounting stones that you can choose from: the traditional "Tiffany" prong settings, bezel mounts, flush mounts, and more.I have outlined my opinions about the Tiffany mount here, so I will proceed to the other options now.

One of my favorite mounting styles is the bezel style, shown here. As you see, the metal holding the stone goes completely around. This is a very secure style of mount, and it is very comfortable to wear as well because there are no prongs to snag or catch on things. This is the reason why you often see this style used on very expensive fine jewelry.

A modification of the bezel mount is shown here. Instead of completely encircling the stone, the metal is cut away on two sides. To do this, the metal needs to be thicker, more sturdy, but with a stone this size that is not a problem, and the advantage is that you see more of the stone. The diamonds in this example have a flush mounting. As you see, they are inset into the metal which is burnished all around to hold the stones in place. For that reason, this could be called a burnished flush mounting.
